Using Twitter Effectively For Business – HootSuite
These days you’ll hear a lot about the “miracles” of social media.
My take is that this is simply a new name for a practice that’s existed since the start of the Internet. I remember being in college and belonging to online bulletin boards and groups about some of my favorite hobbies and interests.
I shared photos and video and interacted with others (and this was the early 90’s).
So if it’s not new… why is it so hard?
I think its because while the technology has gotten easier, the social space is very cluttered and many don’t know what to say.
The goal is to share with your audience things they are interested in. You don’t need to always create, you can simply share what you enjoy.
You can instantly share content with your entire social circle with just a few clicks.
My favorite way is to use HootSuite. By connecting my multiple Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn accounts I can share the interesting stories, videos, and resources I encounter on the net.
When I do create something, that can be shared too. HootSuite lets me connect the RSS feeds from a podcast, a YouTube channel, and my blog. These are automatically published to the networks I’ve chosen.
There are two features I find invaluable.
First, I can schedule tweets
This means if I find something useful at 3 am, I can post it at a more useful hour so more people see it.
It also lets me schedule a few posts on a particular topic to come out over time.

The other feature I find useful is the detailed report that I get letting me know the most read or viewed stories I publish.
This helps me learn about my audience and grow the reach of my business.
HootSuite has free accounts, but the $6 a month option is really worth it in my experience.
